Kata-Fumbwa

On trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo i was introduced to a dish that would become the cornerstone of my creative vision. The dish, Fumbwa, features resilient, shredded leaves—so tough they’re nearly inedible unless meticulously chopped and thoroughly cooked.

This act of transformation inspired a local fashion ethos known as Kata-Fumbwa, where torn and repaired clothing mirrors the shredded leaves of this beloved Congolese staple.

Exploring visual textures influenced by the diaspora

Each textile tells a story crafted with precision and imagination. Through thoughtful fabric manipulation and the use of materials that dance with light and shadow, every piece comes alive with a striking depth. These textures aren’t just seen—they’re felt, inviting your eyes to trace every curve and contour as if by touch.
